Many thanks to Leo our morse code guru at the Beechworth Telegraph Station for the interesting information about Beechworth.

On Tuesday 29th June 1880
9.00am Ned Kelly carried to the train for the journey to Melbourne, taken from the train at North Melbourne and conveyed by horse dawn vehicle to Melbourne Goal.

11.00 Telegraph sent by John Arundel of the Beechworth Burke Museum to the state secretary requesting that Kelly’s armour be given to museum.

Dan Kelly and Steve Hart buried at Greta Cemetary.

"I am trying to find the name of a stage hypnotherapist that had previously performed in Beechworth on several occasions. I would really appreciate if you could forward this information."

I have no idea. I will have to chat to Doreen about this one on Friday.

Accommodation Famil

The staff and volunteers at the Beechworth Visitor Information Centre enjoyed our accommodation famil trip to Dargo, Lilac Cottage, Oban House, Foxgloves B&B, Wolverton Cottage, Victoria Rose Cottage and The Rose Cottage B&B. Beechworth has such a large rang of quality accommodation on offer. Many thanks to Anne for organizing a terrific famil. Reports back from the staff and volunteers indicate that everyone had a fantastic time and enjoyed a hot coffee at the end.

Shot Glass Collector

Young Lachlan (an avid shot glass collector) was visiting Beechworth this weekend with his family. Lachlan was thrilled to discover that the Beechworth Visitor Information Centre has a range of shot glasses for sale. He quickly snapped a Ned Kelly shot glass to add to his collection of over 20 shot glass from around Australia.

Queens Birthday Weekend

It has been a very busy Queens Birthday weekend in Beechworth. Anne, Jeff, James, Martin & Iris were run off their feet over the weekend with 582 visitors through on Saturday and 673 visitors through on Sunday. Well done everyone!

Beechworth Chinese Cultual Centre

The Beechworth Chinese Cultural Centre was invited to attend Victorian Community History Awards at Parliament House at the end of the month {June} for the Tea exhibition they held last year.

FRIDAY 3rd August, 2007
7.00pm - Kelly Dinner at the Nicholas Hotel

$39.00 per ticket (max 80)

In the tradition of the old Music Hall join us for an evening at the Nicholas Hotel with dinner, music and fun. Wear period costume – get a table of friends together to enjoy a feast of Irish food and fun- music in the Irish tradition with Lazy Harry and his 3 piece band and hear the wandering minstrel.

Prizes for the table wearing the best period costumes/ best singing and dancing etc.

SATURDAY 4th August, 2007
8.30am Breakfast at the Beechworth Railway Station. All proceeds from the breakfast will go to a local charity.
Awaiting the arrival of Ned Kelly from Melbourne. He is to be transported under heavy police escort through the streets of Beechworth to The Beechworth Courthouse.

10.00am Ned arrives at the Beechworth Courthouse.
He will now await his appearance in court for his Preliminary Hearing.


11.00am-noon Guest Speaker – Brian McDonald Tickets $15.00 adults $10.00 children
"Ned Kelly – unravelling fact from fiction" - Books can be learning tools ... but don't believe everything you read! We will examine the writings on Ned, from the first book published in 1879 through to modern day e-books downloaded through the Internet. Which ones can we trust?
Brian will be available for a book signing at the conclusion of his talk.


12.15pm - Saturday 4th -Mini Bus Tours – 75 minutes. Ticket prices $17.00 Adult $ 14.50 concession $40.00 per family (2Adults and 2 Children)
Tour Historic Kelly sites on this 75 minute mini bus tour. Visit the Beechworth Cemetery, Former Beechworth Goal (from outside). After visiting Telegraph Rock the tour takes you to Woolshed to view the murder hut side and one of the police caves (view from road) and other relevant Kelly sites.

2.30pm-4.30pm Re-enactment of the Preliminary Hearing and Trial
Ned Kelly was in the Beechworth Courthouse to answer a charge of murder. The re-enactment takes you back in time to see and hear what happened in the Beechworth Courthouse in August, 1880 and continues with the Trial.


4.30pm - Saturday 4th - Mini Bus Tours – 75 minutes. Ticket prices $17.00 Adult $ 14.50 concession $40.00 per family (2Adults and 2 Children)

“The story of Ned Kelly’s mother and his family is not widely known. Come along and hear the many stories from Ellen’s arrival in Australia up until her death in 1923.”

The Beechworth Visitor Information Centre “Members of the Month” have been announced for June.

Beechworth Visitor Information Centre members who take out the Membership Plus package are eligible to become one of four Members of the Month.

The Members of the Month are drawn at random and receive:
 their image on the front page of www.beechworthonline.com.au linking through to their main page (with much more information and six photos)
 prime position of their brochures on the mantle piece in the Beechworth Visitor Information (underneath the plasma screen)
 their advertisement on the plasma screen playing continuously from 9am to 5pm.
