Congratulations to Iris Mannik - Winner of the Dame Phyllis Frost Award
Iris is a very keen supporter of the Sustainable Communities - Tidy Towns awards and views it as a testament to all of the work conducted by volunteers in support of their communities. Iris is able to talk to primary school children about their interests in the environment as easily as she is helping elders work through plans for a heritage project to celebrate the influence of Aboriginal people of the area. Most country towns can boast at least one person like Iris, who can draw together people with diverse interests and help turn individual crusades into community projects. Her enthusiasm, expertise and willingness to give up her time have been instrumental in many of the exciting and innovative projects getting off the ground. Iris' pride in Beechworth and the community shines through at all times; she is a wonderful ambassador for her region and worthy winner of this award,
The winner of the Dame Phyllis Frost Award is chosen by Keep Australia Beautiful Council and the Tidy Town Judges.
Iris now goes on to Swansea in Tasmania for the National Awards in March 2008.
Congratulations Iris from all the team at the Beechworth Visitor Information Centre!
